Disney History – February 18th: Mickey Mouse Cartoon and Lion King

Walt Disney’s Mickey Mouse

On this day in 1933, Walt Disney’s cartoon Mickey’s Pal Pluto was released. You can view this cartoon below.

It really is remarkable to think about how long ago Walt Disney created Mickey Mouse and his friends, and how those characters have lasted throughout time and have gained fans and fanatics from around the world. Additionally, pay close attention to the detail and smoothness in the drawings, which were produced during a time without computers and special effects. Truly amazing.

Lion King VHS Released

On this day in 1955, the VHS of The Lion King was released, selling 20 million copies in the first week. This is one of the classic Disney movies from the later generation of Disney hits, such as The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, and Beauty and the Beast.

The Lion King and its host of characters, I feel, will stand the test of time just as Mickey and the gang has. Both groups include characters that possess inherently good qualities that we all want to root for, as well as warm, funny and lovable characters that we love to watch over and over. Do yourself a favor a pick up this classic if you haven’t watched it in a while…and if you have the original VHS version…bonus points to you.
